US men's London 2012 Olympic basketball hit by ... - BBC World News

The US men?s Olympic basketball team has suffered yet another injury after Blake Griffin of the LA Clippers was ruled out with a tear in his left knee. Blake Griffin will be replaced by one of the hottest young talents in the NBA (Picture: Reuters) He joins Orlando centre Dwight Howard, Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose, and Miami Heat duo Chris Bosh and guard Dwayne Wade in being forced out of contention for place in the London Games squad. His place will be taken by 19-year-old Anthony Davis, who was the number one pick in the 2012 NBA draft. ?Blake worked extremely hard in our training camp and certainly would have been a valuable contributor,? said USA basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo. ?This is another unfortunate injury, but we have to continue to move on and we?re very fortunate to have Anthony Davis available. ?Anthony offers our team additional height and length, and this will be an incredible experience for him.? Davis was drafted by the New Orleans Hornets in June and scored nine points as the USA cruised to a 113-59 victory over the Dominican Republic on Thursday night.
