Edin Dzeko staying put as Manchester City 'turn ... - BBC World News

Manchester City have turned down a ?15 million bid from Juventus for striker Edin Dzeko, according to reports in Italy. Ed boy: Dzeko is a Juve target (Picture: Action Images) City boss Roberto Mancini is ready to listen to offers for the out-of-favour forward as he looks to clear space for a move for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie. Serie A champions Juve are also eyeing up a move for Dutch star, but are believed to be considering Dzeko as an alternative after being offered his services through an agent working for the Premier League winners. However, despite wanting rid of the 26-year-old, City want to recoup most of the ?27 million they paid Wolfsburg for the player in January 2011, and have already snubbed Juventus? opening offer of ?15 million. It is not yet clear whether Juventus will return with a second offer, but a number of Italian newspapers suggest coach Antonio Conte will now ask Mancini to release Dzeko on a 12-month loan. But that option is unlikely to be given the green light, as City expect they will have a number of possible suitors for the Bosnian in the latter stages of the transfer window. Dzeko, who has scored 24 goals in 45 Premier League matches for City, still has three years left to run on his current contract, that pays him around ?160,000-a-week. And the suggestions are that he may well opt to sit on that for at least another 12 months. Elsewhere, City have opened talks with Galatasaray over a loan deal for talented striker John Guidetti, who spent last season on-loan at Feyenoord.
