Hezbollah's ability to fire rockets biggest threat to Israel: report

BEIRUT: Israeli security assessments indicate that the biggest threat to the Jewish State is Hezbollah's ability to fire rockets at Israel and not Iran's missiles, Haaretz reported Monday.

The paper quoted an official source as saying that Israel would be able to handle rocket attacks from Iran or the Gaza Strip but that ?the major problem Israel currently faces is the significant missile arsenal [that] Hezbollah holds and its ability to fire rockets at Israel for a long period of time.?

It added that security and government assessments indicate that ?the biggest threat to Israel is a deadly response from Iran's ally Hezbollah.?

"Hezbollah is the long arm of Iran," a government source said.

"This terrorist organization will undoubtedly barrage Israel with thousands of missiles. It won't begin with Kiryat Shmona and end in Haifa, but will reach further into Israel. Hezbollah could cover Israel with rockets."

The report also quoted another official source saying that in the event of a Hezbollah missile attack on Israel, the country would have to destroy the resistance party?s ?long-range missile launch pads.?
