Volkswagen Golf Debuts in Germany

Volkswagen unveiled the seventh generation Volkswagen Volk in Germany and this little Volkswagen is all ready getting picked as a favorite in the subcompact class. This new version has been built with all new MQB architecture that lightens up the weight considerably while still keeping the sturdy feel that its known for due to the 28% increase in high strength steel.

While the engine specs haven?t been released for the American version of the Volkswagen Golf, the rumors are that the compact will host a new 1.4 liter turbo charged inline four, or 1.8 liter turbocharged four cylinder engine. Either one of these engines is expected to offer the best in fuel economy while also adding reasonable power.

While the Volkswagen Golf is lighter and has better fuel efficiency, it has also grown up a bit. It is 2.2 inches longer to make it up to 167.5 inches total in length. The wheelbase also got an additional 2.3 inches to make it up to 103.8 inches total. With the longer length, the front wheels were able to be positioned 1.7 inches further forward to create a sportier proportion. The crash structure has also been improved as well.

Because this new version Volkswagen Golf is a bit larger, it also has a more spacious cabin with more knee room and cargo capacity than the older versions. A more accessible load area was also included for more convenient handling of whatever you need to transport. Of course the infotainment system including a five inch touchscreen is turning out to be one of this model?s favorite new features with options that will take the touchscreen up to eight inches.

From the sounds of it, the Volkswagen Golf might end up being the compact to beat in its class for this coming sales season. There is no word yet on when it will show up in American dealerships, but it won?t be long now.
