NEW ORLEANS - Winners of the 2012 American Academy of Pediatrics Children's Art Contest were announced Saturday, Oct. 20 at the AAP National Conference and Exhibition at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. This year's contest drew entries from 36 states and 10 countries.

This was the AAP's eighth annual art contest.

Winners of the three U.S. categories were presented with $500 cash prizes with matching amounts for their schools at the AAP conference in front of an audience of several thousand pediatricians from around the world. Second-place winners and their schools each received $250.

The winners' artwork will be on display at the convention center and posted to the AAP's website at aap.org. Winners are:

Grades 3-5:

First Place: Jasmin Jisoo Yoon, Greenbriar West Elementary, Virginia

Second Place: Alyssa Fayerman, C.T. Douglas, Massachusettes

Grades 6-8:

First Place: Jesse Zaky, Mayfield Woods Middle School, Maryland

Second Place: Kimberly Te, Manhasset Middle School, New York

Grades 9-12:

First Place: Kimberley LaRue, Broad Run High School, Virginia

Second Place: Maggie Tseng, Walnut High School, California

International division:

First Place: Goh Wern Sze, Methodist Girls' School, Malaysia
