Tito Vilanova appointed Barcelona coach

Tito Vilanova has been officially appointed Barcelona?s first team coach we can confirm. Tito has agreed on a two year deal and will step into Guardiola?s shoes and take over until June 2014.

Tito will sign the contract on Friday and after he?ll be officially presented to the fans and media. Vilanova must be floating on air at the moment to be appointed Pep?s successor after riding shotgun for the last five years.

Tito will be the 16th Catalan coach to have taken over at the Nou Camp and everything is expected of him especially as he?s been with Pep for five years, the best coach ever to have been at the great Catalan club.

A statement on Barca?s official website read:

?FC Barcelona have come to an agreement with Francesc ?Tito? Vilanova,? read a statement on Barcelona?s website.

?This season?s first team assistant manager will be the head coach of FC Barcelona for two seasons, through June 30, 2014. Vilanova will sign his new contract this Friday on June 15 at 1200.?

At Pep?s side, together they won two Champions League titles, three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, three Supercopas, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups which is an amazing feat given the period in which the two have managed it.

Also, worthy of note is that ex Barca keeper, Andoni Zubizarreta, who is Barca?s sporting director, has also had his contract extended for a year. Zubizarreta took over the role from fellow Basque Txiki Begiristain in July 2010 and is now tied to the Catalan giants until June 30th 2014 with a clause that could extend his contract for a further two years.
